Paddlefish snagging season opens Oct. 1 on Missouri River

Paddlefish snagging season on the Missouri River opens Oct. 1, and the Nebraska Sport and Parks Fee has a number of reminders for anglers hoping to fill a tag.

Through the season, which runs by means of Oct. 31, anglers could snag paddlefish and nongame fish from Gavins Level Dam downstream to the mouth of the Large Sioux River at mile marker 734. Authorized fishing hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Extra concerning the season:

Closed Areas – Snagging just isn’t allowed off the north wall and within the space instantly under Gavins Level Dam powerhouse discharge canal. All inland waters stay closed to paddlefish harvest.

Permits – Snaggers should have an unfilled paddlefish tag and a legitimate fishing allow, if required, of their possession whereas fishing. From Gavins Level Dam downstream 0.6 miles, anglers should maintain both a Nebraska resident or nonresident snagging allow, or a South Dakota resident allow. South Dakota nonresident permits are legitimate solely downstream of this stretch. A complete of 1,600 tags have been approved, with 1,530 going to residents.

Rules –

Just one hook could also be used, with a niche no wider than one-half inch.

Paddlefish between 35 and 45 inches (eye to fork size) should be launched instantly.

Each day bag and possession limits equal the variety of tags issued to an angler.

All anglers should solid for and hook their very own fish.

Gaff hooks or penetrating touchdown gadgets are prohibited.

Tagging and Processing – Harvested paddlefish should be tagged instantly within the dorsal fin. Tags should not be altered or locked earlier than attachment. Fish could also be processed into two entire fillets solely after the fishing journey is full and upon leaving the river, with the tag and allow stored with the fillets.

Nongame Fish – Discarding nongame fish on the financial institution is illegal.
